Batu Caves

Only 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves is a cluster of limestone caves and Hindu temples. Hidden in the caves are colorful Hindu deities and ornate shrines (Mandir). It's a steep 272 steps to the top, but so worth it when you get there. The golden Lord Murugan stands 140 ft tall and Hanuman (Green Monkey God) stands 50ft tall. The caves are surrounded by lush foliage, native Malay fauna, and various monkey species. The site is also where the annual Thaipusam festival is held (full moon in Jan/Feb) Glad I wasn't there for that...the festival has attracted close to a million people in the past.

Travel deets: Take the KTM Komuter rail from KL Sentral to Batu Caves (last stop). Should only take 20-30 minutes.

Fish Spa

                         They're hungry for dead skin cells!!!!

                         Had to get my toes done for this special occasion. :)

Most are interested in trying this when heading to Southeast Asia. The concept of fish nibbling at your feet to remove dead skin cells and to improve circulation, doesn't sound like a bad idea at first....but just wait till you put your feet in the water! I don't consider myself a ticklish person at all, but I couldn't keep my feet in the water! It's an odd feeling....cause not one but probably two dozen fish are nibbling at your feet at once. Since I went to Malaysia before going to Thailand, my Fish Spa experience was in Kuala Lumpur. These are all over the city, but I found one of the cheapest places to be in Central Market (not far from Jalan Petaling (Chinatown). Once you walk into Central Market, make a left turn and walk to the end and then walk straight (it's towards the middle of the market on the first floor). The place is called Cute Fish Spa....nothing cute about it. Oh, and make sure you have some sanitary wipes at hand....only god knows the kinda feet these fish have been nibbling on prior to yours...
